Miramax has made the brave decision of releasing a film version of Brideshead Revisited which takes a fair few liberties with Evelyn Waugh's novel. If you've read it (which I did for September's
PopUK Book Club) you may find the alterations distracting, but view the film as a separate entity and you can marvel at the acting and cinematography.
It tells the story of Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode) and his involvement with the aristocratic Flytes, from his Oxford days with Sebastian (Ben Whishaw) to his relationship with Julia (Hayley Atwell).

The cast of
Brideshead Revisited were joined by a dapper Will Young for the film's UK premiere in Chelsea yesterday. Matthew Goode and Felicity Jones kept it simple and smart, while Ben Whishaw accessorised with a teddy, no doubt to represent his character Sebastian's bear Aloysius. Love it!

We finished reading Evelyn Waugh's
Brideshead Revisited this week as our first
PopUK Book Club title, and this month a special collectors edition box set of the award-winning ITV series was also released, ahead of the new film version's release on Friday.
The four disc box set contains the entire collection of 11 episodes, filmed on location at Castle Howard in North Yorkshire and first broadcast in 1981.
The adaptation stars Jeremy Irons as Charles Ryder, Anthony Andrews as Sebastian, Dianna Quick as Julia, Sir Laurence Oliver as Lord Marchmain, Claire Bloom as Lady Marchmain and Sir John Gielgud as Edward Ryder.

Welcome back, members of the
PopUK Book Club. We've discussed the
first section and the
second section of Evelyn Waugh's novel, so now it's time to talk about Book Three: "Brideshead Revisited" and the Epilogue.
A quick reminder of how the Book Club works: each week I'll suggest a section to complete by the following Monday, and will post a few questions to start our discussion in the comments section.
