I
was surprised at how much I ended up enjoying
Four Christmases starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, and maybe some of the early buzz from others who also liked it helped the holiday comedy win the Thanksgiving weekend box office this year
with an estimated $46.7 million since opening Wednesday.
Meanwhile the highly anticipated Baz Luhrmann epic
Australia opened at No. 5 after
Quantum of Solace in fourth place,
Twilight (which passed the $100 million mark this weekend) in third, and
Bolt in second place.

Anticipating
Twilight might just be this weekend's big box office winner,
I asked you guys to ring in with some possible box office headline puns for the news this morning. Well,
briggs313's suggestion in the post was awesome, so I went ahead and used it — thanks briggs313!
Twilight's debut on the big screen was a smash success, earning $70.6 million over the weekend and breaking several records.

The new James Bond film,
Quantum of Solace, leaped to box office success in its opening weekend, coming in at No. 1 with an estimated $70.4 million. This was a record breaker, in fact: According to
Variety, it was "the biggest opening ever for a James Bond title and a major victory for a film franchise nearly half a century old."

The animated sequel
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa was a big hit with audiences over the weekend, earning a whopping $63.5 million. In fact, it
set some records and "narrowly scored the best opening of the year for a family toon, as well as the seventh best bow of all time." Madagascar 2 just barely surpassed
Wall-E which brought in $63 million its opening weekend.

Those whippersnappers have once again snapped up the box office crown. Over the
Halloween weekend,
High School Musical 3 got
top marks at the box office for the second weekend in a row, this time bringing in just over $15 million. According to Variety, this pushed "its worldwide total to an estimated $146.8 million after 10 days in release."

If the photo below were a
Caption It contest based on this weekend's box office results, my entry would go something like: "Well Leo, there's no easy way to say this so I'm just going to come out with it. We got beat by the little talking dogs. Beat bad."

You know,
the reviews for Disney's
Beverly Hills Chihuahua were not as bad as I thought they might be, so that coupled with the fact that it's a family film meant that the movie about little talking dogs took the No. 1 spot at the box office over the weekend. The top dogs brought in a seriously impressive $29 million.

Shia LaBeouf proves he's box office gold once again with the No. 1 movie this weekend,
Eagle Eye, also starring Michelle Monaghan and directed by D.J. Caruso.
Lakeview Terrace, a thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson,
came in at No. 1 at the box office over the weekend and performed relatively well with an estimated $15.6 million.

The Coen Bros. helped give the box office a needed Autumn boost with their comedy
Burn After Reading, which debuted at No. 1 with an estimated $19.4 million.
