Comedians came out in force for
No Man's Land's press night at the Duke of York's Theatre last night. The play has transferred from
its run at Dublin's Gate Theatre to London, and the stars of the show were joined by playwright Harold Pinter as well as Eddie Izzard, Rob Brydon and Dominic Cooper. David Walliams happily posed with his mother Kathleen as well as his costar Michael Gambon, who's also currently on the big screen in
Brideshead Revisited, while Russell Brand brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to the night in his shades.
Of course
The Duchess is dramatic. Georgiana Cavendish, the Duchess of Devonshire, led a dramatic life and she herself was a dramatic — and smart, and charismatic — woman. I really liked this movie, but I might have liked it more if it were a slightly broader examination of the Duchess.
The Duchess had a special screening in New York last night, in association with The Cinema Society and — how fitting for
Fashion Week — Vogue magazine. As
I've described, the costumes in the movie are amazing, but last night both Keira Knightley and model Coco Rocha were working pretty gothic looks on the red carpet. perfect pout stole the show at the world premiere of
The Duchess in London's Leicester Square last night. Looking gorgeous in her Alexis Mabille dress (
do you love or hate it?), Keira joined costars Ralph Fiennes and Dominic Cooper, director Saul Dibb and writer Amanda Foreman on the red carpet, taking time to sign autographs for the hordes of fans.
Keira Knightley and Dominic Cooper popped in to the Radio One studios yesterday, ahead of
The Duchess's premiere in Leicester Square this evening. Keira accessorised her monochrome outfit with an
animal print scarf and cute heels, while Dominic gave us a glimpse of that chest we saw in all its glory in
Mamma Mia. From what Dominic said about
his costumes (or lack thereof) on set, I'm fairly confident he wasn't wearing a skin-coloured nappy under that casual outfit.
When I met the stars of
The Duchess, Keira Knightley, Dominic Cooper and Hayley Atwell were happy to spill about
the sex scenes in the film. Another hot topic was the Diana connection. Keira's character, Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire, is an ancestor of Princess Diana and there are parallels between the women's complicated marriages.

The Duchess, is finally released at cinemas across the UK today. We've seen the stars at
the world premiere and attending
radio interviews, and now it's time to see if the film lives up to all the hype. Although the poster carries the famous Diana quote — "there were three people in her marriage" — the film has nothing to do with her (
as the cast and director told me when I met them recently) so that aspect of
the trailer is for marketing and doesn't reflect the content of the film.

The Duchess and hear all about the role sex plays in the movie, from the practicalities of filming sex scenes to the sexual politics of the period. The Duchess, a new movie based on the biography Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman.
Set at the end of the 18th Century, it tells the dramatic story of Georgiana's life, focusing on her incredibly unhappy marriage to the Duke, her trials dealing with his live-in lover Bess, the attraction she feels for the future PM, and her popularity with the people.
The film's out on September 5, and I want to know what you think.

The most musical movie hitting the theaters this Friday,
Mamma Mia, premiered in NYC last night. The stars were all out and full of smiles including Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried who play the mother daughter pair at the center of the film. It's hard to say who looked more dapper, Pierce Brosnan or Colin Firth, handsome in suits before watching themselves sing and dance on the big screen.
