Miramax has made the brave decision of releasing a film version of Brideshead Revisited which takes a fair few liberties with Evelyn Waugh's novel. If you've read it (which I did for September's
PopUK Book Club) you may find the alterations distracting, but view the film as a separate entity and you can marvel at the acting and cinematography.
It tells the story of Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode) and his involvement with the aristocratic Flytes, from his Oxford days with Sebastian (Ben Whishaw) to his relationship with Julia (Hayley Atwell).

The new
Miramax film version of Brideshead Revisited, based on Evelyn Waugh's novel (which we read for September's
PopUK Book Club), is released in the UK today.
It centres on Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode) and his infatuation with the aristocratic Catholic Flyte family, headed by Lady Marchmain (Emma Thompson) and Lord Marchmain (Michael Gambon).
Dramas unfold from Charles's intense relationships with siblings Sebastian (Ben Whishaw, who appears in our
October Must Haves) and Julia (
The Duchess' Hayley Atwell).

The cast of
Brideshead Revisited were joined by a dapper Will Young for the film's UK premiere in Chelsea yesterday. Matthew Goode and Felicity Jones kept it simple and smart, while Ben Whishaw accessorised with a teddy, no doubt to represent his character Sebastian's bear Aloysius. Love it!

We finished reading Evelyn Waugh's
Brideshead Revisited this week as our first
PopUK Book Club title, and this month a special collectors edition box set of the award-winning ITV series was also released, ahead of the new film version's release on Friday.
The four disc box set contains the entire collection of 11 episodes, filmed on location at Castle Howard in North Yorkshire and first broadcast in 1981.
The adaptation stars Jeremy Irons as Charles Ryder, Anthony Andrews as Sebastian, Dianna Quick as Julia, Sir Laurence Oliver as Lord Marchmain, Claire Bloom as Lady Marchmain and Sir John Gielgud as Edward Ryder.

Welcome back, members of the
PopUK Book Club. We've discussed the
first section and the
second section of Evelyn Waugh's novel, so now it's time to talk about Book Three: "Brideshead Revisited" and the Epilogue.
A quick reminder of how the Book Club works: each week I'll suggest a section to complete by the following Monday, and will post a few questions to start our discussion in the comments section.

Welcome back, members of the
PopUK Book Club. Last week we discussed the
first section, so now it's time to talk about Book Two: "Brideshead Deserted". Feel free to read ahead, but please don't reveal any spoilers in the comments.

Welcome back, members of the
PopUK Book Club. A fortnight ago I
announced the title of our first foray: Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited.
We've had a couple of weeks to get a copy and read Book One, so now it's time to discuss!
Join PopUK's Book Club! If the
Buzz Book Club isn't giving you enough reading, you can always hook up with the new reading group just starting over on our UK sister site. First up: Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited.

Taking inspiration from my girl Buzz, the time has come to launch our very own virtual book club here on PopUK! Just like the
Buzz Book Club, we will read and discuss a book every month.
I've chosen
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh for our first foray this September.
